The (Wo)Man In The Mirror
yourself. Do you feel at ease with what you see? Are you comfortable looking back into your own eyes? If you answer
any of these questions in the negative, chances are that you don't
feel all that great when you look into that mirror. You have a rather low opinion of yourself and feel that you don't
quite measure up to that 'ideal image' of who you would like to be. Self-esteem is something that makes you feel comfortable with who
you are in spite of imperfections in yourself. It is that attribute that lets you see the 'good' and the
'positive' in you and project that in how you react to the world
around you. Lack of self-esteem or a sense of self worth creates a lot of
unwanted pain. Living together in a society, people base their
opinion of themselves on what is considered 'normal behaviour',
something that is very relative. What is acceptable to some may be tolerated by some others and be
totally unacceptable for others still. The truth is a person cannot please everyone at the same time. And
when it so happens that a certain group of people are not
satisfied, it results in criticism, which when conveyed tactlessly
or unjustifiably harsh, can result in a massive blow to a person's
ego and lead to that person feeling rather bad about himself. Low self-esteem is believing that you are not good enough, a
feeling that makes you morose and hinders your ability to reach
your potential as an individual. It might stem from feeling 'out of
place', from a lack of proper self-awareness or from having very
high expectations of one-self. Whatever the cause, it is a
debilitating and self-defeating attitude and should therefore, be
overcome. The first step towards developing healthy self-esteem is taking
stock of all your strengths. Ask yourself what you are good at and
don't get discouraged if you don't discover anything at first
glance. Then pinpoint the root of what led to that first feeling of
worthlessness and keep reminding yourself of all your strengths
every time something triggers the negativity. Finally, consciously
try to be a little less harsh on yourself. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if you're a bit different
from others, or if you take more time to learn something new, or if
you aren't the most beautiful to look at. Being at peace with and
accepting whoever you are will bring about over-all well being and
keep you happy and emotionally satisfied. To Freedom and Abundance Dr Ken O.

Victim
Victim
Do you feel as if you are a victim?
It’s a sad fact that so many people go through their lives believing that they do not have any control over their own destiny, like a ship in a storm, blown wherever good or bad events take them.
Not everyone is lucky enough to be born with a silver spoon in their mouth, but starting out with disadvantages in life does not mean that you are condemned to live with them or that you have no power to change them. The one thing that the rich and the poor, the strong and the weak are blessed with regardless of their status is CHOICE. We may not be able to choose the events in our lives, be they good or bad, but can CHOOSE how we react to them.
Let’s be honest for a moment. Acquiring a victim mentality is incredibly easy especially when things go wrong. It’s so simple to cringe and say “it’s not my fault”.
A victim mentality begins with a lack of clarity of who we are and what we want from life. Vacillation is the only obstacle to progression. A very good friend of mine put it succinctly: indecision is the killer of dreams.
It’s also true that we love to criticize complain and condemn. We cannot meet anyone without griping about the weather (it’s always too hot or too cold); we seldom enjoy a morning coffee without making snide comments about an absent “friend”; we cannot have a drink in a bar without telling everyone how much better off the country would be if we were president….( extreme examples...... but you get the point?)
The biggest problem in our lives is that we allow ourselves to become hostage to negative thoughts and feelings. Wherever you are, even at a wedding, there’ll be someone with something to complain about. We don’t seem to be able to see the open door on our right because we are too busy glaring at the closed door on our left. Letting negative thoughts sap our energy leaves nothing left for creation.
Another reason for being a victim of life is Fear. It’s so easy to find excuses for staying in an unhappy situation; People may tell you to close your eyes and concentrate on the benefits, or they will say: “better safe than sorry”; but the choice to stay or go, change or accept, will always be yours alone.
So what makes us afraid? Is it because of what the family/friends/neighbours will think? Is it fear of damaging our self-image? Is it a lack or an eroding of our self confidence over time?
An inner sense of being inadequate reflects itself externally and we fall further into victim hood when we do a favour for a neighbour and the favour isn't returned. We ask ourselves if the service wasn't good enough, if we should have done more, without even realising that all we have to do is to ask in return. Every religion says that to receive you must first give. How many of us remember that while we are still glaring at the closed door?
The only difference between us and a bird that doesn't know the cage door is open, is that we build our own cages and locks and we are the only ones who hold the key to the door. Few people assume full responsibility for the things that happen in their lives and seldom use the power each of us has to make necessary changes.
The answer to victim hood, is knowing what you want from life and remembering the old saying: "Change what you can and learn to live with what you can’t". With a positive attitude and by taking action you can change enough and find out that living with the rest is not too hard.
Don’t chase success - let it chase you!

Fear
However, you should consider this; fear can be a valuable ally if harnessed correctly.
Our Comfort Zone
Humans almost always gravitate towards stability. We fly towards safety and security. We don’t usually like to be caught off balance. Equilibrium is our home. We desire to be in our comfort zone and to stay there for as long as possible.
The comfort zone is our nest, our haven, our oasis – of the things we routinely do, things we are used to, things that need no extra effort from us. All other things that put us out of our rhythm or tip us over the edge make us, at the very least, uncomfortable.
We feel uncomfortable as well when we encounter something that triggers a sense of fear in us. Thus we avoid fear and quickly retreat to our comfort zone.
The Nature of FearThere are those who say that fear and love are the only main human emotions. All other emotions that are positive are variations of love while negative ones are related to fear. More often than not, fear comes about when we are confronted by something unfamiliar or unknown. When we are not certain of the outcome or, more accurately, when the certainty of a positive outcome is overshadowed by the possibility of unwanted consequences, that is when we experience fear.
The trouble with fear is that it tends to make people hold back. We freeze when we feel afraid. Fear makes you stop in your tracks. It keeps us from taking action required for the situation; not because we don’t know what to do but because we are overcome by the thought of an unfavorable outcome.
The Danger Zone
Nature built into us fear as our warning siren that there is danger. The human instinct of “fight or flight” kicks into effect. When we experience fear our body gets a surge of adrenaline, our senses are heightened, and glucose rushes into the bloodstream boosting our energy levels. We instantly gain an ability to focus and react accordingly.
The sad thing about this, is that when confronted with fear, people unconsciously shrink back and completely dismiss or ignore the whole situation. They have taken their comfort zone and turned it into a panic zone shutting off everything else outside.
This is why many people feel trapped. The comfort zone has become a danger zone because people have forgotten how to use fear to take proper action in their lives. The more we allow ourselves to shrink back, the more the comfort zone becomes smaller and smaller.
Harnessing Fear
The take away here is for us to get back to our nature. We need to re-learn the impulse of fight and flight, action and reaction. Even if you are in a life and death situation, shutting down is not the answer; it would more likely put you in peril. If a car is rushing towards you, you don’t just freeze in the middle of the road. You have to step aside, avoid the danger momentarily and then keep moving forward. Learn to react appropriately to the situation.
Confronting the source of your fear – the unfamiliar, the unknown, the new – in most likelihood, will lead to discovery and development. In life, the more you learn, the more you grow. The clarity, the ability to focus and the energy that the feeling of fear provides is something that you can use to propel yourself forward.
In reality, fear produces the same sensations as excitement. So when you are feeling pressured and at the edge of your comfort zone, instead of succumbing to a feedback loop of fear, you can invert it into a feedback loop of excitement. Ultimately it is all a matter of changing your perspective. The message here is for you to stop shrinking back. Live at the edge of your comfort zone and keep moving forward, learning new and exciting things. That is how you get to experience life to the fullest.

Dismantling the Ego
It was Les Giblin who once said " We are all egotists". He further went on to say that we are more interested in ourselves than in anything else in the world. When you have a toothache, do you ever stop to think of the suffering people in Africa? Of course not! Your situation is more important.
Sometimes we do things that we are not exactly proud of. We wish we could erase what happened and we suffer from guilt. Here are three ways we can handle our ego.
1. What happened, happened. Accept the fact that you cannot change what happened. You are who you are and all your experiences and programming in life have brought you to this point.
2. Bring it out into the light. Examine it. Take a cold hard look at it. Remember it’s not personal, it’s not about you, it’s about your behavior.
3. Learn the lesson. It is not most important to recognize the behavior and work on refraining from repeating it in the future, but most importantly helping others by saving them from making the same mistakes.
So what questions are you asking yourself? The conversation continues.

Why has my life not changed?
Why has my life not changed?
Most people get stuck in life mainly due to the fact that they are not seeing progress. They do all the right things, go through all the right changes, meet the right people, even say all the right prayers, yet nothing happens.
Why is this so?
To make things happen in the right way, we have to be willing to change in the right way and by that I mean change from the inside out. This means working on the negative part of us that holds us back.
Remember the old Cherokee legend? It goes like this: An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego”. He continued, “the other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. The same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person too”. The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather "which wolf will win?". The old Cherokee simply replied “the one you feed”.
Remember you are your own worst enemy. The question is: are you willing to put in the effort to consistently feed the right wolf?

Negative Thoughts
We have to look after the garden of our mind. We first have to discover and then begin removing the weeds of our negative and limiting beliefs (the weeds). We then have to replace these weeds with new seeds. These seeds have to be positive and they have to be positive thoughts that lead to positive feelings that lead on to positive actions and finally lead to positive results.
Share this with others and it becomes infectious. Continue watering the garden of your mind by working with affirmations and other positive techniques. Keep the negative weeds of thinking out of your mind. It will catapult you in the right direction.b Dr Ken Onu http://www.kenonu.com

J.R Martinez and Karina Smirnoff "Dancing with the Stars" The lesson
J.R Martinez and Karina Smirnoff won the Dancing with the Stars competition. It was a day filled with suspense.
Awaiting the results was excruciating.
After so many weeks. Karina said I think I lost my voice....I was screaming.
I normally do not watch dancing but the excitement got to me.
What attracted me to the event was the fact that people can accomplish what they set their
minds to if they commit to persevere. And persevere they did.
Perseverance according to the experts is the ability to continually move toward the achievement
of a goal or objective. it is one of the most important attributes of successful people.
Passion, my friends is what drives perseverance. It is the state of mind that creates the
incredible will to persevere. The best way to think of it is this: Imagine a rocketship shooting into
space. Perseverance is the rocket ship and passion is the fuel. Your rocketship will never take
off into space without any fuel. Imagine how many steps they took to practice, over and over
again. That is what success is all about.
Said army veteran and actor J.R. Martinez: "It's amazing. We've all been putting over three months
of work into this. To be able to hold that trophy up was a tremendous honour."
The whole process is life changing. Everyone is watching.
So remember persevere and be passionate.
I wish you well

STARTING TODAY!
Ready to Give Up? 50 Things You SHOULD Give Up… Starting Today. Starting today…1. Give up trying to be perfect. – The real world doesn’t reward perfectionists, it rewards people who get things done. 2. Give up comparing yourself to others. – The only person you are competing against is yourself.3. Give up dwelling on the past or worrying too much about the future. – Right now is the only moment guaranteed to you. Right now is life. Don’t miss it. 4. Give up complaining. – Do something about it.5. Give up holding grudges. – Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness.6. Give up waiting. – What we don’t start today won’t be finished by tomorrow. Knowledge and intelligence are both useless without action. 7. Give up lying. – In the long-run the truth always reveals itself. Either you own up to your actions or your actions will ultimately own you.8. Give up trying to avoid mistakes. – The only mistake that can truly hurt you is choosing to do nothing simply because you’re too scared to make a mistake. 9. Give up saying, “I can’t.” – As Henry Ford put it, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right.”10. Give up trying to be everything to everyone. – Making one person smile can change the world. Maybe not the whole world, but their world. Start small. Start now. 11. Give up thinking you’re not ready. – Nobody ever feels 100% ready when an opportunity arises. Because most great opportunities in life force us to grow beyond our comfort zones, which means we won’t feel totally comfortable at first. 12. Give up setting small goals for yourself. – Many people set small goals because they’re afraid to fail. Ironically, setting these small goals is what makes them fail.13. Give up trying to do everything by yourself. – You are the sum of the people you spend the most time with. If you work together, you will be far more capable and powerful than you ever could have been alone. 14. Give up buying things you don’t need. – Manage your money wisely so your money does not manage you. Do not spend to impress others. Do not live life trying to fool yourself into thinking wealth is measured in material objects. 15. Give up blaming others for your troubles. – The extent to which you can live your dream life depends on the extent to which you take responsibility for your life. When you blame others for what you’re going through, you deny responsibility – you give others power over that part of your life. 16. Give up making mountains out of molehills. – One way to check if something is worth mulling over is to ask yourself this question: “Will this matter in one year’s time? Three years? Five years? If not, then it’s not worth worrying about. 17. Give up trying to live up to the expectations of others. – Work on it for real and exceed your own expectations. Everything else will fall into place.18. Give up the ‘easy street’ mentality. – There is too much emphasis on finding a ‘quick fix’ in today’s society. For example taking diet pills to lose weight instead of exercising and eating well. No amount of magic fairy dust replaces diligent, focused, hard work. 19. Give up making promises you can’t keep. – Don’t over-promise. Over-deliver on everything you do.20. Give up letting your thoughts and feelings bottle up inside. – People are not mind readers. They will never know how you feel unless you tell them. 21. Give up beating around the bush. – Say what you mean and mean what you say. Communicate effectively.22. Give up avoiding change. – However good or bad a situation is now, it will change. That’s the one thing you can count on. So embrace change and realize that change happens for a reason. It won’t always be easy or obvious at first, but in the end it will be worth it. 23. Give up your sense of entitlement. – Nobody is entitled to anything in this world. We are all equal. We breathe the same air. We get what we give. We get what we earn.24. Give up waiting until the last minute. – Those who fail to plan, plan to fail. 25. Give up being dramatic. – Stay out of other people’s drama and don’t needlessly create your own.26. Give up being anti-athletic. – Get your body moving! Simply take a long, relaxing walk.27. Give up junk food. – You are what you eat. 28. Give up eating as a means of entertainment. – Don’t eat when you’re bored. Eat when you’re hungry.29. Give up foolish habits that you know are foolish. – Don’t text and drive. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t smoke. Etc. 30. Give up relationships with people who bring you down. – Saying “no” to right people gives you the time and resources required to say “yes” to right opportunities. Spend time with nice people who are smart, driven and likeminded. 31. Give up being shy. – Network with people. Meet new people. Ask questions. Introduce yourself.32. Give up worrying about what others think of you. – Unless you’re trying to make a great first impression (job interview, first date, etc.), don’t let the opinions of others stand in your way. What they think and say about you isn’t important. What is important is how you feel about yourself. 33. Give up trying to control everything. – Life is an unpredictable phenomenon. No matter how good or bad things seem right now, we can never be 100% certain what will happen next. So do you best with what’s in front of you and leave the rest to the powers above you. 34. Give up doing the same thing over and over again. – In order to grow, you must expand your horizons and break free of your comfort zone. If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting. 35. Give up following the path of least resistance. – Life is not easy, especially when you plan on achieving something worthwhile. Don’t find the easy way out. Do something extraordinary.36. Give up persistent multi-tasking. – Do one thing at a time and do it right. 37. Give up thinking others are luckier than you. – The harder you work, the luckier you will become.38. Give up filling every waking moment with commitments and activities. – It’s okay to be alone. It’s okay to do nothing sometimes. Think. Relax. Breathe. Be. 39. Give up making emotional decisions. – Don’t let your emotions trump your intelligence. Slow down and think things through before you make any life-changing decisions.40. Give up doing the wrong things just because you can get away with it. – Just because you can get away with something doesn’t mean you should do it. Think bigger. Keep the end in mind. Do what you know in your heart is right. 41. Give up focusing on what you don’t want to happen. – Focus on what you do want to happen. Positive thinking is at the forefront of every great success story. If you awake every morning with the thought that something wonderful will happen in your life today, and you pay close attention, you’ll often find that you’re right. 42. Give up taking yourself so seriously. – Few others do anyway. So enjoy yourself and have a little fun while you can.43. Give up spending your life working in a career field you’re not passionate about. – Life is too short for such nonsense. The right career choice is based on one key point: Finding hard work you love doing. So if you catch yourself working hard and loving every minute of it, don’t stop. You’re on to something big. Because hard work ain’t hard when you concentrate on your passions. 44. Give up thinking about the things you don’t have. – Appreciate everything you do have. Many people aren’t so lucky.45. Give up doubting others. – People who are determined do remarkable things. Remember, the one who says it can’t be done should never interrupt the one doing it. 46. Give up fussing with every beauty product on the market. – Good looks attracts the eyes. Personality attracts the heart. Be proud to be you. That’s when you’re beautiful.47. Give up trying to fit in. – Don’t mold yourself into someone you’re not. Be yourself. Oftentimes, the only reason they want you to fit in is that once you do they can ignore you and go about their business. 48. Give up trying to be different for the sake of being different. – Nonconformity for the sake of nonconformity is conformity. When people try too hard to be different, they usually end up being just like everyone else who is trying to be different. Once again, be yourself. 49. Give up trying to avoid risk. – There’s no such thing as ‘risk free.’ Everything you do or don’t do has an inherent risk.50. Give up putting your own needs on the back burner. – Yes, help others, but help yourself too. If there was ever a moment to follow your passion and do something that matters to you, that moment is now. And remember, mistakes make us human, failures help us grow, hope keeps us going and love is the reason we’re alive. So keep learning, loving and living. Never give up on yourself…
I hope this inspired you as much as it did me! Best,
STAY ACTIVE!

Do something extraordinary. 36. Give up persistent multi-tasking. – Do one thing at a time and do it right. 37. Give up thinking others are luckier than you. – The harder you work, the luckier you will become. 38. Give up filling every waking moment with commitments and activities. – It’s okay to be alone. It’s okay to do nothing sometimes. Think. Relax. Breathe. Be. 39. Give up making emotional decisions. – Don’t let your emotions trump your intelligence. Slow down and think things through before you make any life-changing decisions. 40. So enjoy yourself and have a little fun while you can. 43. Many people aren’t so lucky. 45. Give up doubting others. – People who are determined do remarkable things. Remember, the one who says it can’t be done should never interrupt the one doing it. 46. Give up fussing with every beauty product on the market. – Good looks attracts the eyes. Personality attracts the heart. Be proud to be you. That’s when you’re beautiful. 47. – There’s no such thing as ‘risk free.’ Everything you do or don’t do has an inherent risk. 50. Never give up on yourself… I hope this inspired you as much as it did me! Best,
