Compassion or Judgement!

I just judged a good friend of mine by insinuating that he was not telling me the truth.
You know whats funny, It didnt make me feel good. As much as I felt I was right , something inside me just felt lousy. My friend even went to great lengths to prove he was telling the truth.
Thats when it hit me! It didnt matter whether my friend was telling the truth or not. By making that judgement I was unconciously trying to control my friend. How sneaky! Ouch! Whether right or wrong I should have shown compassion. Anyhow..I apologized for my behaviour, the apology was accepted, we are friends again and I feel pretty good about it.

There has been a significant amount of research about compassion, in the areas of human development and behaviour. Mary Robinson Reynolds writes: Psychologists have demonstrated that a compassionate response to difficult people and situations yields a positive reaction 70% of the time. Whereas, responding with resentment or anger produces a negative reaction 100% of the time! So which odds would you choose?
Compassion: Positive Result 70% of the Time
Resentment: Failure Result 100% of the Time

Every time I choose compassion, I am deeply astounded, not only at the power of this force, but that it really works to shift and change a situation.

If you judge people, you have no time to love them. - Mother Teresa

Your honor, I rest my case.
Warmly,

Ken
